The 1922 American Dog Derby was heavily promoted but blizzard conditions kept the large crowds away. 1923 was also heavily promoted. This is a promotion in a popular national magazine in May of 1922. The American Dog Derby of 1923 would have perfect weather and would attract a truly monstrous crowd of 15,000 to this small town of less than 2,000 people where there were simply not enough facilities for a crowd this large. The American Dog Derby had been overly promoted but became a worldwide sensation in 1923.
