1919 (Photo) Kent Skiing Main St. With Dogteam
Uncaptioned and undated photo with view to east up Main Street taken near 5th and Main at front of original Ashton Hotel at the American Dog Derby with musher skiing beside his dog team. The photo can be dated. The original Ashton Hotel was destroyed by fire in 1920 so this photo must be prior to 1920. The Derby of 1919 was the only Derby prior to 1920 with relatively fresh snow so this must be 1919. The subject is Tud Kent who is easily identified by his by his team of English Setters and his lead dog with the dark head and large dark patch on left side. This photo is Kent winning the American Dog Derby in the relatively fresh snow of 1919. The crowd was estimated to be 1,500 in 1919.
